End Overdose is made possible by hundreds of volunteers working tirelessly across the country. Some of them are training attendees at national festivals on how to respond to an overdose, while others are packing naloxone kits in our office well into the evening hours. We want to shine a light on the people whose efforts make our resources free and accessible to all, so we’re excited to share our Volunteer of the Week: Raymond Macias!
Since Raymond's first event with End Overdose, he has been someone we can rely on. He shows up early, stays late, and is always open to helping wherever needed — even when it extends beyond our typical expectations for volunteers. Raymond makes everyone feel welcome, and he recently volunteered at 3 shows in San Francisco — even volunteering on his birthday.

Can you tell us about yourself and your story?
I began volunteering with End Overdose in the summer of 2024. Although my career goals and professional background lie outside the organization’s primary focus, I choose to volunteer solely because I believe deeply in the cause and the impact it has on our communities.
What inspired you to volunteer for End Overdose?
I was first introduced to End Overdose through my brother, Randal, and it has been an incredible opportunity. I have personal experience with the impact of substance use and treatment, and I have always known that I wanted to give back in any way I could. Being able to train others and directly share life‑saving information is something I take very seriously and consider extremely important. Having the chance to combine this work with my interest in music has made the experience especially meaningful.
What are your favorite memories of volunteering with End Overdose?
Volunteering with End Overdose has been profoundly rewarding. I have had many heartfelt conversations with individuals who have shared their own stories, and it has been very moving to connect with them while sharing our mission. I have also built strong relationships with fellow volunteers who share the same commitment to overdose prevention and response. Volunteering with End Overdose has become a truly cherished part of my life.
