Recovery from substance use disorder doesn't have a magic, one-fits-all approach. Different modalities work for different personalities, so Recovery Demystified is offering a science-driven method for residents in Northwest Arkansas who are interested in the pursuit of recovery. End Overdose is proud to supply Recovery Demystified with naloxone and fentanyl test strips as part of our distribution efforts in Arkansas, so we spoke with the group about what inspired their founding, what sets their approach to recovery apart from other organizations, and how to contact them if you're based in Northwest Arkansas!
Who is Recovery Demystified?
Recovery Demystified is a 501c3 organization based in Northwest Arkansas. We provide non-religious, science based addiction recovery support groups, social events, and a podcast. We focus on empowerment and meeting people where they are at in a judgement-free environment.
Why are you passionate about recovery?
I am passionate about addiction recovery and harm reduction because I am in long term recovery, and I spent many years feeling lost and alone because the traditional spiritual methods felt alienating and harmful. I have had many friends and family members suffer or die from addiction, and I want to help people who are interested in science and self-empowerment as a method of healing. This primarily includes folks from historically marginalized communities such as people of color, LGBTQIA+ folks, disabled people, and unhoused people.
Why is having naloxone and fentanyl test strips important for your group?
Having naloxone and fentanyl test strips available is absolutely essential for our group. As people search for their path to recovery, they may continue to use drugs on and off along the way. We want to keep people alive long enough to find recovery and healing. Having harm reduction supplies available at our support groups helps to destigmatize addiction and humanize the person experiencing it. It sends an important message that people with addictions don’t often hear: “I love you and I want you to heal. I want you to survive long enough to find your path to recovery.”
When and where do you meet?
Support groups are every Monday at 6pm at The Library Vintage, 48 E Township. Sober social events are different every month, so follow us to get the latest schedule!
